Elven Kin Strife in the Forest

The High Elf Sea Guard clashed with the Wood Elves within the forests of Athel Loren, and the battle was not a good sight for either army.

Being unable to fire a volley from their ships because of the dense forest, the Sea Guard decided to deploy in a tight formation and rain down shots on the Wood Elves as they came toward their line.  With four repeater bolt throwers and three units of Sea Guard, it wasn't hard to do.  The Wood Elves had two regiments of Eternal Guard backed by three regiments of Glade Guard and a regiment of Glade Riders.

The Glade Riders started the battle by running up the flank and firing on a unit of Scouts unsuccessfully.  The Eternal Guard moved forward, aided by some long-range shots that killed a couple of High Elves.  One of the High Elf Mages was killed by a Spellsinger's accurate bowfire and accompanying spites.  The High Elves opened up, all four RBTs tearing into a unit of Eternal Guard, killing twelve of them.  The Scouts charged the Glade Riders, but were easily beaten.  The Glade Riders overran them and found themselves in combat with the other unit of Scouts, which they easily beat.

The Eternal Guard advanced again, and the Altered Noble charged into combat.  He didn't fare well, and was killed quickly.  The RBTs slew nearly half of the second unit of Eternal Guard, and a combination of magic killed all but four of the other unit of Guard.

The Guard charged into combat as the Glade Riders wheeled for a charge up the hill containing the bolt throwers.  The remnants of the Eternal Guard finally got into combat with the Sea Guard as missile fire caused the third unit to flee and killed the crew of one of the RBTs.  The battles of the Guard were brutal, with the smaller unit winning its battle and chasing down the Sea Guard it was fighting.  The larger unit fought a lengthy combat, but was destroyed after only causing a handful of casualties.

The Sea Lord on his Eagle flew amongst the Glade Guard, spraying them with fire and slaying half a dozen, the rest fleeing from the flames.  The bolt throwers continued their firing, slaying all but two of the Glade Riders, and destroying the last of the Eternal Guard.  The Glade Riders charged uphill, slaying a bolt thrower crew as rocky hands shot up from the hill and destroyed another bolt thrower.  The Glade Guard took a stand, killing the Eagle the High Elf Lord was riding, and setting themselves up to pepper him with shots.  The last unit of Eternal Guard started marching forward.

The Wood Elf Spellweaver, with no more High Elf dispel scrolls and few mages to stop his spellcasting, cast The Howling Wind, causing the High Elves to have problems moving and firing at the remaining Wood Elves.  The Wood Elves had no such problems, and peppered the last bolt thrower crew, then turned their attention to the Lord, slaying him, and killing a couple more Sea Guard.

With no chance to seize victory, the few remaining High Elves turned their backs to their forest kin, and retreated back to their boats, vowing never again to fight that far from the coast.
