Dwarf Treasure Hunter Warbands

By Matthew Anderson
Northern Wastes

Dwarf Treasure Hunters are lured from their relatively peaceful underground life in strongholds to the dangerous and deadly city of Mordheim searching for booty and the fabled Wyrdstone. These treasure hunters are often armed to the beard with finely crafted Dwarvern weapons.

They are led by a treasure hunter captain, who is often backed up by a fearless and gold-hungry retinue.

Longbeards are the leader's right hand men. They are wise almost beyond their years.

Short Beards are young Dwarfs, lured away from their strongholds with tales of treasure and glorious victories against the enemies of the Dwarf kingdom.

The warband is often accompained by a master brewer, whose skills often come in handy when the Dwarfs are feeling thirsty.

These heroes are accompanied by a retinue of warriors, armed with their trusty axes or other deadly weapons.

Expert pickman: Miners are so skilled with their picks that they may reroll any failed hits when charging. Note that this only applied if armed with picks. Apart from this, treat picks as double handed weapons.

Miners lanterns: Miners may also carry lanterns, the rules for which are given in WD227. Note that Miners may use their picks as well, because they wear lanterns on their helmets.

Notes on Dwarf warbands - by Matthew Anderson

This warband represents a typical Dwarvern skirmish force. Originally, Neil and myself planned to include Slayers in the warband, but we did not feel that a small selection of Slayers as henchmen was appropriate for this mighty troop type. To this end, we have playtested and broadcasted the Slayer warband list for the general publics' enjoyment.
