MORDHEIM - CITIES OF GOLD
NEW STYLE

by Tommy Punk

The Temple cities of the Slann have been plundered and ruined. But the plunder is not over as more and more plunderers arrive at the shores of Lustria, drawn by the previous plunderers tales of cities covered in gold. The ruined temple cities of Huatl, Tlax and Xahutec are the most frequently raided due to their location near the coast. The recent years more and more Norse, Elven and Human plunderers have arrived and the cities are becoming somewhat "crowded". The lure of gold have such a strong effect on humans that brother start to fight brother for yet another piece of gold for their already overflowing sacks. Hit and run attacks by brave Skink and Saurus warriors further help to divide the plunderers.

Now the beaches, the jungle and the cities themselves are home to numerous small bands of plunderers all entering the ruined cities in search of yet more gold and waiting for an oppurtunity to and sail back home, or even steal a ship for themselves.

THE WARBANDS

The "Cities of Gold - New style" setting features the following Warbands:

The Norse have formed a colony and tales of cities teeming with gold draw more and more Norse warbands each year.

The Lizardmen originally built the cities and are now trying to protect them, they mount guerilla attacks to try to stem the waves of plunderers into the ruined cities.

The Pygmies are savage tribes of men and although they take no stand in the battle over the ruins but they attack anyone that comes to close to their territories - be they man, elf or lizard.

The Amazons (new style) are the legendary women warrior tribes and they defend their existance by all means necessery. They too have an interest in the treasures in the ruin cities.

The Skaven (Clan Pestilens) have already conquered the city of Quetza and consider the whole of Lustria their domain. They are looking for entryways into the Temple City tunnel system and they know the true value of the Slann golden Plaques.

There are many Human expeditions landing on the shores of Lustria, these come from all of the larger nations such as Tilea, Bretonnia and Empire. Some of these are military or exploration expeditions and some are plain treasure seekers financed by a wealthy merchant. When the ships land some men will always break away to form a warband to seek out the treasure on their own. There are several warband lists to choose from, including the ones based on the different Empire states, just pick one that you are comfortable with.

High Elves and Dark Elves launch expeditions/raiding parties on Lustria but are not as frequent as the human expeditions. Many High Elf mages want to uncover the magical secrets of the Slann while the Dark Elves and many High Elven merchants are more interested in exotic animals or rare gems and jewels.

The Undeads are present on the Vampire coast and could very well be mounting expeditions on the temple cities. You can use either the Necromancer or the Vampire warbands. Its assumed that many lesser Necromancers and Vampires has flocked to Harkons realm.

THE SKIRMISHES

The temples are protected by a number of traps and numerous dead-end tunnels lead the explorers in circles. The plunderers are thus forced to camp in the cities while they explore the depths of the temples and plan how to overcome the numerous traps. As most cities only host around half a dozen smaller and larger temples ,many skirmishers are fought for possesion of a temple so that it can be explored without interruption. Many plunderers are shrewd and wait for a rival warband to retrieve the treasure and then ambushing them. However they still need to be present in the city to keep an eye on the other warband so that they dont escape into the jungle unseen.

The warbands guard their accumulated treasure jealously and will fight anyone who strays to close. Most of the fightings erupt while the warband make their way into the city or tries to set up a new camp closer to a temple. In addition many warbands are forced out of their camps by lizardmen guerillas.

HEAVY ARMOUR EXHAUSTION RULES

This rules intention is to reflect the humid climate of Lustria and what effect it will have on a warrior in covering armour. If a model is wearing heavy armour it will gain one exhaustion points for each of the following actions: run, charge and fighting a round of hand-to.hand combat. Whenever such an action is attempted roll a D6, you need to score more than the total exhaustion points accumulated (not including this action). If you roll equal to or less than the total points then the model looses a point of WS, BS and I. If WS, BS or I reaches 0 then the model is immediately taken "Out of Action" due to exhaustion. Note that this rule applies to all models wearing heavy armour even if they, like Dwarfs, don't suffer its penalties.
